Quadrilaterals

Quadrilaterals : A quadrilateral is a four-sided polygon, like a square, rectangle, or rhombus. In other words A quadrilateral is a simple closed figure with four sides.

Properties of a parallelogram

1 . Opposite sides are parallel and congruent.

2 . Opposite angles are congruent.

3 . Adjacent angles are supplementary.

4 . Diagonals bisect each other and each diagonal divides the parallelogram into two congruent triangles.

5 . If one of the angles of a parallelogram is a right angle then all other angles are right and it becomes a rectangle.

Properties of a Rectangle

1 . Opposite sides are parallel and congruent.

2 . All angles are right.

3 . The diagonals are congruent and bisect each other (divide equally).

4 . Opposite angles formed at the point where diagonals meet are congruent.

5 . A rectangle is a special type of parallelogram whose angles are right.

Properties of a Rhombus

1 . All sides are congruent.

2 . Opposite angles are congruent.

3 . The diagonals are perpendicular to each other (and bisect each other also).

4 . Adjacent angles are supplementary (For eg., ∠A + ∠B = 180°).

5 . A rhombus is a parallelogram whose diagonals are perpendicular to each other.

Properties of a Trapezium

1 . The bases of the trapezium are parallel to each other.

2 . In Trapezium there is no sides, angles and diagonals are congruent.

3 . The diagonals of a Trapezium divide each other proportionally.

Properties of a square

1 . All sides and angles are congruent.

2 . Opposite sides are parallel to each other.

3 . The diagonals are congruent.

4 . The diagonals are perpendicular to and bisect each other.

5 . A square is a special type of parallelogram whose all angles and sides are equal.

6 . A parallelogram becomes a square when the diagonals are equal and right bisectors of each other.

Kite

A quadrilateral is a kite if it has two pairs of equal adjacent sides and unequal opposite sides.
