Classification of Statistics
1 . Descriptive Statistics :-
It deals with the numerical data. These data represents observations obtained through appropriate measurement process. They may
define to entire population or universe that is derived through proper sampling procedure .
Descriptive statistics include the techniques
such as collection and tabulation of data, measurement of central tendency , measurement of dispersion, index number , skewness which
help to summarise and describe the main features of data .
2. Applied Statistics :-
Applied statistics give desired information using some statistical tools which
represent the whole poplation .
In other words, this division of statistics is concerned with the application of appropriate
statistical methods and techniques to the specific problems . Important techniques which constitute the applied statistics are techniques
of sampling , statistical quality control, quantitative techniques for business decisions, index number , forecasting tools and etc .
3 . Inferential Statistics :-
Inferential statistics use a random sample of data taken from a population to
describe and make inferences about the population using some tools like t -
test, z - test, chi-square test and etc .
In other words, in inferential statistics we can know about population statistics
(parameter) using statistics calculated in the sample (statistic) through applying appropriate statistical tools.
